MOJO REVIEW…APRIL ISSUE
Kittow’s Moor ****
It’s unbelievable that Eliot’s forthcoming gig sheet encompasses such lowly venues as Polperro’s Crumplehorn and Liskeard’s Barley Sheaf. For his songwriting allied to The Ember’s engaging guitar and accordion straddled sound, is worthy of a larger, more far flung audience. Not that his chosen West Country residency has harmed Eliot’s songwriting – quite the contrary. A Gretch Country Gentleman-toting frontman, who saw chart sevice as leader of Rialto at the end of the 90s, he’s now welded the sound of barn-bound folk to that of pure pop and emerged with an album that boasts ultra friendly, individually shaped songs guaranteed to warm both hearts and feet. Catch Eliot and The Embers whenever they next elect to cross the Tamar, and in the meantime, order the album via itunes or myspace.com/louiseliot.

Here’s what UNCUT magazine have to say about the album in their March 2010 issue:

LOUIS ELIOT and THE EMBERS
Kittow’s Moor ****
Winning blend of rustic charm and urban cool.

Formerly the frontman of both nouveau glam merchants Kinky Machine and Britpop also-rans Rialto, Eliot is now strumming along a folk/country path, mixing the whiskered troubadour vibes of Ronnie Lane and the Celtic musings of Mike Scott. The characters of Kittow’s Moor fall in love while working a Ferris wheel (“I Saw Her At The Fair”), get back to nature (“Skimming Stones”) and wise up to women who’ve done them wrong (“Clown Shoes”). Mandolins and accordions are to the fore, but never to the degree that they obscure a savvy pop brain with the lyrical articulacy of a Costello or a Weller.

Great album review in the March issue of UNCUT. Looking forward to our St Piran’s gig at the ICA on 5 March…..Kernow In The City:

A Celebration of Cornish Music, Art and Poetry on St. Piran’s Day – Cornwall’s National Day

Friday 5 March 2010 at The Institute of Contemporary Arts, London

In 1497, the Cornish invaders only made it as far as Blackheath before being defeated by Henry VII’s forces…

But in 2010 the Cornish will make it all the way to the ICA on the Mall (in sight of Buckingham Palace!) for Kernow In The City – London’s very first St. Piran’s Day gig!

Headliners Louis Eliot & The Embers celebrate the release of their new album Kittow’s Moor by bringing their joyous rural sound and rip-roaring songs to the big smoke. Louis Eliot is the former frontman of Rialto who scored three top 40 singles in the late 90s. His new album was written and recorded in his homeland of Cornwall and evokes the wildness and beauty of this magical land.

Formerly a member of Rachel Unthank & The Winterset, Jackie Oates was awarded Best Newcomer at this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and receives airplay from BBC Radio 2, BBC 6Music and XFM.
